The power of telling the story.

When I was 17, I published a book chapter about my grandmother’s death, exploring grief, memory and love.

That marked the beginning of a journey in which I used the pen to tell a powerful story.

Public Restrooms.

I published an op-ed in The New York Times about two game-changing New York City Council bills that sought to address the public restroom shortage in New York City.

Impact:

  • Shed national spotlight on local issue.

  • Law passed.

Homelessness in America.

For Time Magazine, I wrote about how laws discourage us from helping our homeless neighbors after subway bystanders filmed the murder of a homeless woman, but did not help.

Impact:

  • The Merriam-Webster dictionary used phrases from my article in sample sentences.
